In 5 Years I… #FaceForward

Sponsored Post: Today I am partnering with Clinique to #FaceForward and share what advice I would give my future self. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’ve always fancied myself an entrepreneur. What can I say, it’s in my blood. I grew up helping my mom at her small business. By age 7 I had made $100 in one-day selling toys and clothes at a neighbor’s garage sale. At 10, I made decorative Thanksgiving Turkeys out of Hershey’s Kisses for an arts and crafts fair that sold out on the first day. (Yes, seriously. Embarrassing but true.) Since it was a two-day fair, my mom and I made a late night run to the craft and grocery stores so I could make more, and I sold out of those too. Pretty sure I made a killing (for a 10-year-old anyways!)

In 5 Years #FaceForward with Clinique // hellorigby seattle beauty blog

When I heard about the new Clinique #FaceForward campaign, it got me thinking about where I see myself in a few years. I had always thought that by 30, I would be a “businesswoman.” I envisioned myself dressing up every day, with a briefcase and power suit, off to  either a corporate job or running my own business. (And no, I’m not 30 yet, but I sometimes still feel like the kid that doesn’t know what they want to be when they grow up.)

DIY Weekend Facial

Sponsored Post: I am being compensated by #CollectiveBias in partnership with #BioreStripDown for this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I wish I could say I had really fabulous plans this past weekend, but that would be a big lie. Lately, we’ve been spending our weekends trying to catch up on cleaning and organizing our house as different parts of our renovation have been completed. Even when I’m busy trying to get chores done, I still try to take some time for myself and relax in between tasks. After all, a weekend has to have a little time for some treat-yo-self action!

So how do I pamper myself on a busy weekend? With a DIY facial of course! I had to cancel my most recent facial appointment because of our European trip and can’t get in until later this month… but let’s just say that in the meantime my skin needs some serious help. Airplane air always does a number on my skin, and I’m left with congested skin that’s drier than the Sahara desert.

So how did I complete this DIY Facial you ask? Here’s how:

How to Get Smooth Straight Hair

Sponsored Post
I’m not a curly girl, but my hair is not quite straight either. It tends to like to hang out between kinked straight hair and beachy waves… with a little frizz and a few flyaways thrown in for good measure.

Over the years, my hair has changed quite a bit in terms of texture. I used to have super wavy hair, it dried in these great waves and of course I didn’t like it then and now miss it terribly. These days, my goal with my hair is generally to get it looking smooth and frizz-free, especially when the rainy season hits! Seattle likes to throw a lot of mist and downpours my way when I’m least expecting it and, of course, hood free.

TRESemme and Suave’s Style Made Simple line has been a huge help in getting my hair smooth and soft. I’m kind of obsessed with the shampoo and conditioner… I don’t know what magic is in there, but it’s basically the softest hair I’ve had in a while. I also noticed they’re not using any parabens and they’re using milder sulfates too. Soft hair and not-so-scary ingredients? Win-win.

Green(ish) Smoothies with Pure Earth Juice

Sponsored Post: I am being compensated by Linqia in partnership with Pure Earth Juice for this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed an onslaught of smoothie photos recently. I had a few on vacation and basically got addicted (again). Smoothies used to be my snack of choice after class in high school. I would come home and experiment with all sorts of recipes. My favorite was chocolate peanut butter and frozen yogurt smoothies, but I also liked trying my hand at mixing and matching fruit flavors.

These days, I try to pick smoothies that incorporate veggies too. With the recent kale fad, I’ve definitely had my fair share of super dark, green smoothies… but I’ve never made these at home. When Del Monte reached out and asked if I’d fit their new juice products into my morning routine I couldn’t say no.  It just made perfect sense – it gave me an excuse to craft up all sorts of new smoothie recipes AND would help me get back on track to eating healthy. Vacations are good at derailing that. I also decided it was as good of a time as any to ditch our old blender and get a new one. What can I say, any excuse to shop.

I’m starting small; for these, I grabbed a bag of spinach, some new Del Monte Pure Earth Juice, and some other goodies and made a couple of batches that shouldn’t scare those who have yet to jump into the green smoothie fad. These are just greenish. ;)
