Breaking up for Earth Day

Did you know Earth Day is this week? I honestly didn’t even realize until I started seeing all the recycle campaigns around town (that honestly, aren’t really that unusual in Seattle anyways.) One particularly fun campaign is Seattle Goodwill Earth Day Breakup4Good, asking local musicians, CEOs, athletes, and other known Seattleites to break up with their outfits for a good cause. They’ve put these outfits on display at Goodwill stores around town.

Of course I had to get in on the action too. I even conned Dave into breaking up with an outfit. I mean, we’re promoting recycling so why not right? Donating to Goodwill means that 9,200 people were provided with free job training and education last year and keep over 40 million pounds out of landfills.

Celebrating MOMents of Beauty

Complimentary Service: Complimentary services were provided in exchange for this review. All opinions are my own.

My mom and I have what I consider to be a unique relationship. As you may know, I’m an only child, and I would say that my mom played the role of sibling in addition to mom. We fought, we disagreed, we had fun times, and we had… well, my teenage years. Despite our years of “difficult teenage behavior” I consider my mom to be my best friend.

I don’t know how many times my school friends told me how weird it was that I talked to my mom the way I did. What others considered talking back to their parents was just normal for me. I was always taught to be an independent and free-thinking individual, and I guess that carried over to how I interacted with her too.

Pop of Color

Product Sample: Complimentary shoes were provided to me in exchange for this review & styling. Affiliate Links: If you click on a link in this post, I may make a very small commission.

All day yesterday it felt like Friday, so when I came to the realization last night that no, my week was not over, it was quite a disappointment. I guess you could say it’s been one of those kinds of weeks.

On a more fun note though, spring is definitely here in the Pacific Northwest, and though it’s still a bit cold for my taste, it’s been fun wearing fewer layers, fun colors, and light jackets again. I’m especially stoked on these Jessica Simpson Jonii pumps that my friends from Rack Room Shoes sent to me to style. You may remember a couple of other outfits I’ve styled with their shoes, most recently this athletic shoe outfit. One of Rack Room Shoes’ suggestions for getting spring ready is by updating your shoes – bright colors, floral patterns, and casual comfort shoes for the whole family.

To really make these pumps stand out, I chose a muted palette for the rest of the outfit. Gray, black, and medium denim jeans kept the attention on the pumps. I also am in search of the perfect pair of white boyfriend or straight leg jeans to really make these stand out this summer. Something about the color white makes the perfect pair really hard to find for me – any suggestions?

Simple Volume Hair Tutorial

Sponsored Post: I am being compensated by Lunchbox in partnership with Suave Luxe Style Infusion for this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Okay, before I share this hair tutorial, you should know: I was not a hair stylist in a former life, so I’m no expert. However, being a bored only child growing up I spent a lot of time in the bathroom making all sorts of crazy makeup looks, taking selfies before they were a thing of my “work,” and doing all sorts of strange hair styles. What can I say, I was a creative one. Or a weirdo, whichever. Some of them still work, like my beloved top knot. (Sorry, this is not a top knot tutorial, but I promise I will post one soon!) Some of them, well, probably did not.

But something I’ve never been able to master? The french braid. I’ve had many different people try to teach me how to french braid, and for some reason I just can’t get it.

So, instead of doing one of those fancy french braid things that wrap around my head, or even fancier, the fishtail braid, I thought I’d attempt something a little easier, so I started with a simple volume hair tutorial, then created this super simple partial crown braid, and pinned back to add a little volume up front.

So, have a few minutes to spare? With the help of a few new products from Suave’s Luxe Style Infusion line found at Walmart for everyday low prices, I was able to blow dry my damp hair and get it styled in about 10 minutes. The perfect amount of time for me in the morning! ;)

Golden Tote March 2015

Affiliate Links: If you click a link below, I may receive a credit if you sign up. I pay for this subscription.

After last month’s disappointing tote… well, I decided to try it again. This month Golden Tote offered free shipping on all tote purchases, and since then have changed their shipping policy to be free on all orders of $149 or more (so basically on the purchase of a large tote.) If you’re not familiar with Golden Tote, you pick 2 items in a $149 tote and are surprised with 4-5 other items. Alternatively, you can choose one item in a small tote for $49 and be surprised with 1 or 2 other items. I prefer the value in the $149 tote, and even if you don’t love everything, you are free to trade and sell on their 3,000+ member private Facebook Group. If you hate it all, you can ship it back (at your own expense) and receive a refund, which is what I did last month.

The reason I tried again? A certain pair of pants, as seen below. I was obsessed (and I still am.) Golden Tote has also been at work revamping their website and style profile to better match you with surprise items you’ll like. What can I say, curiosity killed the cat. Or at least made me spend my money. ;) So what else did I get this month?
