How To Wear Your Favorite Summer Maxi Into Fall

After an intense heat wave of 90+ degree days last week, this week has shocked my system. A string of crisp, cool mornings and gray cloudy skies have me realizing that summer is most definitely coming to an end. (Seriously, how is it almost the end of August?!) One of the hardest parts of the change of seasons is feeling like I can’t (or shouldn’t) take my favorite clothing pieces into the next season, especially when I’m just discovering them!

How to Wear a Maxi Dress for Fall

However, if there’s anything that living in an unpredictable climate area like Seattle has taught me, it’s that I can most figure out a way to make some of my favorite pieces work for the entire year. Today I thought I’d share a few ideas I have for how to wear your maxi dress all year long, but most especially figuring out a way to transition it from summer to fall. The best news? You more than likely don’t need to buy anything new. However, I have one piece in particular in today’s outfit (other than this stunning maxi dress of course!) that might be a little hard to resist. ;)

Back to School Outfit Idea: 70s Inspired

Even though I am several years beyond my back to school days, I still love back to school shopping. Let’s be honest: who doesn’t love a good back to school outfit?! Call me reminiscent of the easier days when adult challenges weren’t a thing, or maybe I just love shopping for fall. Either way, the back to school clothing racks call to me every year, and I almost always end up going on at least one shopping adventure in August.

Back to School Outfit: 70s Inspired Boho Glam Outfit // Hello Rigby Seattle Fashion BlogDisclosure: The Outlet Collection Seattle sent me shopping with a gift card in exchange for this post, but all opinions are my own!

I was thrilled to be invited down to The Outlet Collection near Seattle last weekend to do a little back to school shopping. They challenged me to style one back to school outfit, from head to toe, with just $250. It sounds like a lot of money, but when you think about all of the pieces required for an entire outfit (a statement piece like a coat or dress, or both, accessories, a bag, and shoes) you can run up a bill pretty quick. I also was able to catch a fashion show that they had going on that afternoon. I loved many of the looks, but I won’t lie, the last segment focused on hippie chic was most definitely my style and inspired a lot of the direction of this outfit!

Today, I thought I would share some of my tips for how I created this back to school outfit on a budget shopping at The Outlet Collection Seattle, and some of the wardrobe staples I think are super hot this year for fall whether you’re in school or not!

5 Ways to Prepare for a Blog Photo Shoot

It’s only slightly ironic that after writing a post about how I take my own photos, I work on a post a week later that I collaborated with a photographer on… But hey, I never turn down a good photoshoot. ;) With that said, if you’re new to having your photos taken by a photographer, I thought it might be helpful to share a few photoshoot tips and how to prepare for your first one. After all, at one point in time, I had never shot with a photographer. (Unless you count my senior photos in high school, and let’s just say I had no clue what I was doing then!)

Wait, you mean you have to prepare for it?! Of course, you don’t technically, but if you’re a fellow style blogger, trust me, you’ll want to have at least one outfit planned, and if you can, I recommend shooting as many outfits as the photographer will let you in the time that you have. (And I’m not saying you should take up all of your photographer’s time; be respectful and make sure you discuss how much time you are allotted and how many outfit changes you can have ahead of time.)

How to Take Your Own Outfit Photos For Your Blog

If I had to guess the most frequently asked question about blogging that I get, I’d take a not-so-wild guess and say that it’s about how to take your own outfit photos. To be fair, I’m very lucky to have been able to wrangle Dave, my mom, or work with a photographer from time to time, but sometimes it’s just not possible. I don’t expect their lives to revolve around my blog, so a girl’s gotta get a little creative.

How to Take Your Own Outfit Photos for Your Blog

So how exactly am I able to shoot a variety of shots all by myself? It takes a decent amount of equipment, trial and error, and even some embarrassment, but I promise you too can your own outfit photos. Luckily I’ve done some of the hard work by already using my recommendations, so if you like the pictures I’m able to take of myself in posts like my latest Stitch Fix, this post about Fall Fashion Trends, or any of my makeup tutorials, then read on for all the details!

Stitch Fix August 2016

Disclosure: This Stitch Fix August 2016 post contains affiliate links. All opinions are my own, and I purchase this subscription myself.

A box from Stitch Fix is always a happy sight, though I have to admit I was a little shocked when I got the shipping notification. How could July already be over?! Summer is fading quickly, and while I love the weather and fashion that Fall brings, it seems like Summer is coming to a close quicker than I would like. Don’t get me wrong; I love the crisp breeze and the leaves changing colors on the trees, but there’s something to be said for the warm days and cool nights of summer too.

But, back to Stitch Fix. If you’re a Stitch Fix Newbie, Stitch Fix is a clothing subscription service that you schedule when you want to. For a $20 styling fee (that you can use towards anything in your “Fix”) you’ll receive a box of handpicked clothing, shoes, accessories, or handbags. Pin to your Pinterest board, leave a note for your stylist of what you’re looking for and fill out your style profile to get the best possible results. It sometimes takes a few tries for your stylist to get your preferences and fit, but when they do, you will love it.

Stitch Fix August 2016

This month I asked my stylist for fall staples; a denim shirt and floral bomber have been on my list, but I just haven’t found the right styles yet. Unfortunately, my stylist let me know they couldn’t fulfill my requests, but she still sent me a box full of cute items that I couldn’t wait to try on! Ultimately I still haven’t 100% decided what I’m keeping, so let me know in the comments down below which piece(s) you like the best!
