The Perfect Top Knot Tutorial

Let’s be real –  the top knot is not a new hairstyle. There are many iterations, even. From ballet to messy to hot cross (oh wait… that’s food) there are so many types of buns. My favorite? This top knot tutorial. It’s a little bit messy, but more importantly, super simple to create.

For me, the top knot is a fall and winter staple, and it felt wrong to write about it in summer. Sounds strange, but since it never gets that hot here in Seattle, I prefer to wear my hair down. In the cooler months, however, I often stretch out how often I wash my hair. Having a wet head when it’s chilly is the absolute worst!

So, the top knot became my go-to, nearly everyday hair style and now that it’s getting cold again, I’m happy to share my formula with you. I’ve tweaked it slightly because I know not everyone has the same hair type as I do (long, thick, & crazy) but it still gets the same look that you’ve seen in past outfit posts. Now don’t get me wrong – not everyone is going to like this look, and that’s totally okay. Feel free to do whatever kind of bun makes you happy. But if you like how mine looks, I promise it’s super simple to create! :)

Why I’m Thankful for My Dog

Sponsored Post: This post was sponsored by the National Dog Show Presented by Purina. I loved the idea of the #DogThanking campaign and am excited to help raise money for the AKC Canine Health Foundation!

I’ll be the first person to warn you that Shibas aren’t for the faint of heart, but I’m also the first person to tell you how much I treasure mine. Yesterday, a certain little man turned 3, and I couldn’t help but be a tiny bit sentimental for his younger days and also be sad that another year has passed by so quickly.

Purina Dog Thanking: Why I Love My Dog // hellorigby.com seattle lifestyle blog

As Thanksgiving draws near, it reminds me to be thankful for what I do have, and how I’m incredibly grateful to have such a special dog in my life. I was recently at an event where a woman received a devastating phone call that her dog had passed while she was away from home. My heart broke for her, and it reminded me of how we felt a few years ago when we learned that Dave’s dog Bonnie was very ill. I was instantly transported back to those emotions and felt for her. It’s an amazing thing to own a dog, but it’s incredibly difficult to lose one.

Key West Travel Guide

Hold onto your hats – today’s post is going to be a long one! A couple of weeks back, you may remember seeing a barrage of photos of a very different climate on my Instagram. Since we were planning to go to Miami for a wedding, we figured we might as well extend our trip a few days and turn it into a vacation. Originally, we had planned to drive up to Orlando to Disneyworld and Harry Potter World, however we found out we may be venturing there next year… Hence why we went south to Key West!

Key West Travel Guide: Where to Eat, Shop, Stay, & Do // hellorigby.com seattle travel blog

Dave had never been to Florida, and I have been to Miami and Fort Lauderdale once, so we were flying blind when it came to knowing a thing about the Keys. To be perfectly honest, the trip snuck up on me and I really didn’t plan anything out in advance. Most of what we decided to do was based on what we felt like doing at the time, what type of food we were in the mood for, and what was rated the best on Yelp or TripAdvisor. So for that reason, I figured I’d compile what we liked (and a few things that were just okay) into a Key West Travel Guide in hopes it helps someone else out!

One Way to Style Your V Neck

Affiliate Links

When I showed Dave my “concept” for this outfit, his first thought was, “Are you going for the school girl look?” I had to laugh because it does remind me a lot of infamous Gwen Stefani Harajuku Girls video minus the ties, knee socks, and the pigtails. ;) I’ve loved the athleisure trend that’s been happening for the past year or more, and this sweater is a nice transition piece between fall and winter. There are so many options as to what to wear with a v neck sweater, and this is one combo that (to me) is anything but boring.

Another 70s Inspired Boho Outfit

Well, it’s official. It’s November and I’m freezing. Full disclosure: I actually shot this outfit back in September, and held it for a cooler day. With so many in the middle of a heat wave, it felt funny to post something so not warm weather friendly. Now, however, it’s suddenly cooled off here and is continuing to stay in the 40s and 50s during the day and I wouldn’t be caught dead with bare legs outside. Maybe that’s just me though, I’m basically perpetually cold when it’s below 60 degrees. ;)
